I plan to make the most out of my experience at hack the north by doing various things other than hacking. I plan to submit a project with my teammates but I would also like to know other hackers. Everyone comes from a different background and I want to hear their story and share about our past experiences to hopefully learn from one another. I would also like to attend workshops mainly focused on front end development such as UI / UX development as that is one of my weaker points compared to backend development in which I am well versed.
A skill I have worked on for a long time is playing badminton. I started playing badminton when I was 9 years old and have been self teaching myself on how to play the sport since then. I have learned a lot by myself over the years by watching others and trying out to see what works best for me. I have learned how to serve, my arsenal consists of two different serves, one that goes deep and one that lands right in front of the net. I have taught myself how to smash the birdie and tip it into the opposite court, this helps keep my play style unique and diverse. I have also learned how to strategize while playing, for example in doubles we chose formations such as front and back or side to side as name suggests these formations represent what side of the court we cover or are responsible for. Through this process I have found that I like to win. I have always wanted to win and every loss I have experienced while playing badminton I have fueled into motivation that I put into practice preparing and training for my next match to hopefully walk away as the victor. Although victory is not always guaranteed, I have learned to learn from my mistakes from my losses and move on.
I am really proud of overcoming my fear of rollercoasters. The last time I had been to an amusement park before this summer was in 2018 when I went to an amusement park in Michigan, United States called Cedar Point. This park I had gone on many roller coasters and was scared of what happened. I was scared of the feeling in my stomach every time the roller coaster jerked and every time we went down a big arch, I was scared of the feeling that I am about to fall off the ride while I am secured and fastened in place. This all had stuck with me outside this time I went to the amusement park that day. The thought of looking back at this event gave me shivers and I decided to avoid amusement parks as a whole, until this summer. I was asked by my friends to join them on a trip to Canada’s Wonderland and had accepted because I wanted a change. I was afraid as I got onto a roller coaster again in almost 4 years, and at first did not like it but as time went on and I tried to enjoy the moment I saw roller coasters in a new light, I saw them as an adrenaline rush and a moment that should be enjoyed. This experience encouraged me to ride on other roller coasters such as the Yukon Striker and enjoy them. The day after my trip to Canada’s Wonderland I was left sick from all the excitement of the previous day. Although the trip did not end in rainbows and sunshines I can now confidently say that I want to go on a rollercoaster because it’s fun.**
